Specifications: Variable speed, ultimate specimen thickness 50–100 µm. • Radial microtome (Scientific Instruments) Purpose: Section demineralized or soft tissues. Specifications: Produces sections 5–7 µm thick. • Histomorphometry workstation Purpose: Acquire and qualitatively and quantitatively analyze images. Specifications: Workstation consists of 1) A Nikon Eclipse E400 microscope with 1x– 40x objectives, and alternate UV–C light source, 2) in–line color CCD video camera (Sony 3ccd), 3) BioQuant histomorphometry software, and 4) SigmaStat and SigmaPlot statistics and graphics packages. • VersaMax Tunable Reader Multiwell Spectrophotometer Purpose: measures absorbance or percent transmittance. Quantifies end–point assays (ELISAs, cytoproliferation by MTT reduction, colormetric protein assay) and kinetic evaluations running up to 99 hours (enzyme activity studies, kinetic ELISAs). Specifications: Resolves wavelengths of 340–850 nm. Additional equipment This lab also maintains the necessary supplies for performing a variety of histological processing and staining, including a full paraffin embedding station. Additionally, we have access to a full tissue culture laboratory facility. MORF also has access to the services provided by the Minneapolis Medical Research Foundation for qualifying projects. These services include small animal surgery and housing facilities, and advanced molecular biology capabilities. |
