• Buehler Isomet 1000 Slow Speed Diamond Wafering Saw
                Purpose: Sectioning undemineralized specimens.
                Specifications: Cuts sections to a thickness of 150–250 µm.
 
           • Water–cooled Ecomet 3 grinder/polisher
                 Purpose: Finish undemineralized specimens.
 
                 Specifications: Variable speed, ultimate specimen thickness 50–100 µm.

          • Radial microtome (Scientific Instruments)
                 Purpose: Section demineralized or soft tissues.
                 Specifications: Produces sections 5–7 µm thick.


          • Histomorphometry workstation
                 Purpose: Acquire and qualitatively and quantitatively analyze images.
                 Specifications: Workstation consists of 1) A Nikon Eclipse E400 microscope with
                 1x– 40x objectives, and alternate UV–C light source, 2) in–line color CCD video camera
                 (Sony 3ccd), 3) BioQuant histomorphometry software, and 4) SigmaStat and SigmaPlot
                 statistics and graphics packages.


          • VersaMax Tunable Reader Multiwell Spectrophotometer
                 Purpose: measures absorbance or percent transmittance. Quantifies end–point assays
                 (ELISAs, cytoproliferation by MTT reduction, colormetric protein assay) and kinetic
                 evaluations running up to 99 hours (enzyme activity studies, kinetic ELISAs).
                 Specifications: Resolves wavelengths of 340–850 nm.


     Additional equipment
     This lab also maintains the necessary supplies for performing a variety of histological processing
     and staining, including a full paraffin embedding station. Additionally, we have access to a full
     tissue culture laboratory facility. MORF also has access to the services provided by the
     Minneapolis Medical Research Foundation for qualifying projects. These services include small
     animal surgery and housing facilities, and advanced molecular biology capabilities.
